new york summer camp

For our New York wedding, we wanted to do something unique. We’ll be headed to the Poconos for Summer Camp. We’ve rented out Lake Owego Boys Camp for the weekend. It is about 90 minutes outside of the city, so not too terribly far.

Lake Owego has a pool, lake, basketball & tennis courts and most importantly, twin bunk beds. We’ll be planning a field day of competitive scored activities, a day of more relaxed activities and a wedding ceremony.

friday, august 22nd

check-in & arrival starts at 3pm et
we’ll take the day to explore the grounds, get comfortable, eat dinner and relax. we’ll try not to make the classic mistake of going overboard the first night

saturday, august 23rd

the biggest pro of getting married? wielding complete authoritative control over your friends

we will be hosting a day of individually scored competitions. some competitions will be solo and some might be with teams. teams will be random so we will force everyone to interact.

the camp has everything. lake, pool, basketball court, archery, golf, soccer & football fields, tennis courts, bike trails, baseball fields and even a performance stage.

sunday, august 24th

after a big day of competitive activities, we’ll take this day at a more casual pace. we’ll set aside specific time for the pool, lake and ropes course as we need to hire someone by the hour to oversee each activity.

in the evening, we will host a wedding ceremony, drinks and dancing to celebrate!

monday,

august 25th

time to say good bye. we’ll do a light breakfast and roll out at 11am. this is a long weekend so we appreciate everyone taking the time.

faq’s

“what are we doing about food?”

food is provided by the camp. we are talking camp food, think spaghetti or chicken tenders. we’re keeping it casual. this is a summer boys camp so we expect them to be able to handle allergies.

“boys camp? where is the bar at?”

the camp is byob, so phoevin & brian will be providing the alcohol. there is no hard liquor allowed on site. we don’t anticipate drinking too much though as phoevin doesn’t drink anymore & brian wants to prioritize our ability to do activities over drinking. except for sunday night.

“what are sleeping arrangements?”

there are multiple cabins with twin bunk beds. the camp typically has eight adults per cabin. this is a true summer sleep away experience. the weather ranges from 50 - 77 F (10 - 25 C) during August / September.

“how should we get there?”

great question. we are working to figure out some sort of transportation. we are going to explore renting sprinter van(s) for the group. if not, we may need to do some group car rentals and carpool out there.

“how much does it cost?”

we’re locking down pricing still, but we’re estimating around $700 per person. this is a bit atypical and we feel a bit awkward asking. however, this takes care of lodging, food, and we explicitly are stating no gifts, so we hope this isn’t unreasonable.
